As I put my dress on yesterday morning I noticed the hem was falling down at the front. My normal gut reaction would be to take it straight to my tailors to get fixed, but it seeems that for this spring raw uneven hems and crinkled, creased clothing are a major fashion statement.

Thanks to the fashion heavyweights of the catwalk; Prada, Jill Sander, Calvin Klein (to name a few) all showcased simple shapes made out of organic materials such as hessian, linen and cotton strewn with fabric flaws and ragged edges,  all of which had the intended look of appearing quite literally worn out.

I have to confess at first glance this is a trend that I turn my nose up at. I am neat freak and the thought of wearing something that looks un-finished and un-kempt is a wardrobe malfunction too far for me.

But then if  revolutionary fashion queen Miuccia Prada proclaims ‘this is fashion’ then I guess this is no style statement to be sniffed at.

A quick wonder around the shops and I notice that Zara and Warehouse have latched on to this look with a mixture of silk skirts and dresses with unfinished hems and plenty of washed out over crinkled cottons that look like they have been in the tumbledryer for far too long.

Perhaps not a trend for everyone but I guess on the plus side it means spending less money on clothing upkeep and certainly no ironing.

Worth considering then…
